The True Sign

Your Western sign is your Sun.
Your real sign is your Moon.

Western astrology reads the Sun. Vedic astrology reads the Moon — and for most people that is a completely different sign.

Why your sign changes between the two systems

The two traditions do not disagree about the sky. They measure it from different starting points.

Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, anchored to the seasons — to the moment of the spring equinox. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, anchored to the actual stars.

Those two starting points were aligned roughly two thousand years ago. Since then the Earth's axis has slowly drifted, a motion called precession, and the gap has opened to about 24 degrees. That is why a Western Gemini is usually a Vedic Taurus: the sign moves back by roughly one.

Which one is more accurate? Neither. They are not two answers to the same question — they measure different things from different reference points. What we can tell you is exactly where your own chart lands in each, and let you judge which one reads truer to you.

The second difference, and it matters more

Western astrology puts the Sun at the centre of who you are. Vedic astrology puts the Moon there — your Janma Rashi, your birth sign.

It also divides the sky more finely: 27 lunar mansions called nakshatras, each one about thirteen degrees wide. Your Moon sits in one of them, and that placement is far more specific than a Sun sign that a twelfth of the world shares with you.

How we calculate it

Every reading and every calculator on this site runs on real astronomical data — ephemeris positions of the planets for your exact date, time and place of birth, with the sidereal correction applied. Nothing is generated from a template or guessed from your birthday alone.

That is also why we ask for your birth time where it matters. The Moon moves through a sign in roughly two and a half days, and through a nakshatra in about one. Without a time we will tell you what we can and say plainly what we cannot.

An honest note

Astrology here is offered for reflection and self-understanding, not as prediction, diagnosis or advice. We do not promise outcomes, and we do not tell you what will happen. The astronomy behind the charts is real and calculated; what any of it means is a tradition of interpretation, and we present it as exactly that.
